Liverpool have confirmed they will sign Iago Aspas from Celta Vigo for £7.7 million, subject to paperwork being completed.

The 25-year-old striker underwent a medical at the club's Melwood training ground on Tuesday, but returned to Spain on Wednesday evening with the deal still not done.

A paperwork delay held up the announcement of the deal, but Aspas' brother Jonathan, who is also his agent, said late on Wednesday that he anticipated "no problems" getting the transfer done.

And a statement on the club's official website on Thursday evening read: "Liverpool have tonight agreed a deal in principle with Celta Vigo for striker Iago Aspas, subject to documentation being completed."

Aspas, who can play as a main forward, a second striker or out wide, broke into Celta Vigo's first team in 2008, having graduated from their youth set-up.

The forward scored 12 goals for Celta in the first campaign back in the Primera Liga after five years in the second tier, and was reportedly a target for Valencia and Swansea, as well as teams in Portugal and Italy.

Aspas will become Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers' second signing of the summer, following the capture of Manchester City central defender Kolo Tore on a free transfer.
