Tottenham are being tipped to make a bid for former Birmingham striker Christian Benitez.

Benitez currently plies his trade in the Mexican league with Club America and he has proved a consistent figure in front of goal in his two seasons at the club.

His 30 goals helped the club clinch the title last term and have caught the attention of Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas.

"There could be a good offer for Christian from Tottenham," Club America president Ricardo Pelaez is quoted as saying in the Sun . "I've spoken with him and he wants to return to Europe. We won't clip his wings if we get an offer that suits us.

"Of course there are bids for him - he has been the league's top scorer three times after all.

"He is a great guy and a magnificent player. He is under contract but we'll look to see what is the best option."

Benitez spent a season on loan at Birmingham, who initially attempted to sign him permanently but the deal was renegotiated after a medical which revealed a knee problem.
