Dortmund close in after securing Papastathopoulos

Liverpool are still in the frame to sign Christian Eriksen, with Ajax insistent that they had not received an approach from Borussia Dortmund.

The Reds have held a long-standing interest in Eriksen, but reports in the Danish media on Tuesday suggested the midfielder was on his way to Dortmund.

Borussia boss Jurgen Klopp is on the lookout for a replacement for Mario Gotze and it was claimed that he had struck a deal to bring in Denmark international Eriksen.

Dortmund do hold an interest in the 21-year-old, but Ajax technical director Marc Overmars has insisted talk of a deal is premature.

"In the Danish newspapers a series of stories have been written, but Dortmund has not been in contact with us," Overmars is quoted as saying on voetbalzone.nl.

Eriksen is contracted to Ajax until the summer of 2014 and the Dutch side are likely to sell if a suitable offer is tabled.
