Tim Krul could be out for up to five weeks with an ankle injury he picked up in Newcastle's Europa League last 32 second leg 1-0 win at Metalist Kharkiv.

Krul, 24, visited a specialist earlier in the week after leaving the game on crutches last Thursday, following a challenge from striker Jonathan Cristaldo.

"His ankle is still a little bit swollen. We think [he will be out for a] maximum four weeks, five weeks, but we are hoping for less than that," Newcastle manager Alan Pardew said.

Third-choice goalkeeper Rob Elliot was handed a Premier League debut in Sunday's 4-2 victory over Southampton and will continue in goal at Swansea on Saturday, due to 37-year-old Steve Harper's continued back problem.

Krul has kept five clean sheets in 26 games for the Magpies in all competitions this season.
