Bastia have claimed Arsenal are interested in France midfielder Florian Thauvin.

The France Under-21 international has been catching the eye in Ligue 1 and the Corsican club have rejected an offer from Newcastle.

It would appear, though, that Bastia could well receive another approach from higher up the Premier League.

Bastia president Pierre-Marie Geronimi claims to have fielded phone calls from Gunners boss Arsene Wenger.

"We have not received any firm offer from Arsenal and, thus, there is no question of the €5 million reported," Geronimi is quoted as saying.

"This week I have had Arsene Wenger on the phone twice. He expressed his interest in the player to us, but it has not gone beyond that."

Wenger has expressed his concerns with the current transfer window system, but has hinted at signings if he deems them value for money.
