Wenger wants transfer window reform

Arsene Wenger has played down the prospect of Arsenal luring David Villa away from Barcelona in January.

The Gunners boss has hinted at making signings in the January transfer window, having sealed his main piece of business in tying Theo Walcott to a new deal, and he has been linked with Villa.

Villa has struggled to nail down a regular start at Barcelona since returning from a serious leg injury and there has been plenty of talk about a transfer.

Barcelona have stressed a desire to retain the services of Villa, but recent reports have suggested Wenger is planning a late bid for the Spain international.

However, with less than week remaining in the January transfer window, Wenger has played down the chances of Villa heading to Arsenal.

"We have been linked with David Villa but nothing concrete there," Wenger said. "We are not on the case."
