Jan Vertonghen has stated his case for Tottenham to move for Ajax star Christian Eriksen, claiming he is as good as anyone he has played with.

Vertonghen joined Spurs from Ajax in the summer, but his spell in Amsterdam allowed him to keep tabs on Eriksen.

The Dane has flourished this term and impressed against Manchester City in the Champions League.

Ajax are believed to want a fee in the region of £20 million but whatever the price, Vertonghen feels it would be a good investment.

Vertonghen has played with the likes of Gareth Bale and Liverpool's Luis Suarez and he feels Eriksen is in that class.

"Technically, he's one of the best players I've played with," Vertonghen is quoted as saying in the Sun. "He can use his right foot and his left foot equally well and he is always fit.

"Since he was 17 or 18 he has played so many games for Ajax and hardly ever been injured.

"When he gains a bit more physical strength, then I think he can play in any team.

"I don't want to talk for him but he is a good player, and I think a good player can play here."
