AFC Wimbledon handed possible MK Dons confrontation
AFC Wimbledon could be in line to face MK Dons for the first time in their ten-year history after the draw for the FA Cup second round paired them together.
The non-league side, created after former Premier League club Wimbledon were essentially franchised to the town of Milton Keynes in 2004, will face the League One outfit should they beat York City in their first round replay.
MK must beat Cambridge City in their replay too if they are to host a club set up in protest at the decision to disband Wimbledon and move them 60 miles north of London.
After the draw was made, AFC Wimbledon took the unusual step of releasing a statement to confirm they would fulfill the controversial fixture, should it come to fruition.
"While we would rather not have been drawn in this tie, like everything we do, we will approach this game in a professional manner if it happens," the club said in a statement. "Therefore, we are committed to fulfilling this potential fixture on 1/2 December, in accordance with the rules of the competition."
