Manchester City assistant Brian Kidd has revealed the club are still hopeful David Silva could be fit for the crunch Champions League clash with Ajax.

Silva picked up a hamstring problem while on international duty with Spain last week, and City boss Roberto Mancini said he expected him to play no part in Amsterdam on Wednesday.

However, Kidd believes Silva could be in line to complete a rapid recovery and take his place in the starting XI. "With David, we don't know how long he'll be out for," he said.

"I think they are looking at him thinking he might be in with a chance of playing against Ajax. With a couple of days for it to settle down, we will get a better picture.

"Javi Garcia and Maicon [other injury doubts] ... They have done a little bit of training but we hope the next couple of days will bring them on."

City have picked up just one point from their opening two Champions League fixtures this term, piling the importance on their match with Ajax as they seek to avoid an early exit from the competition for the second season in succession.
