Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas has hailed the "immense" quality demonstrated by goalkeeper Hugo Lloris in training.

Lloris, 25, was signed on transfer deadline day from Lyon for around £8 million, arriving at White Hart Lane with an impressive pedigree as the captain of France.

He is set to bide his time on the bench for the time being, however, as 41-year-old Brad Friedel is the club's current first-choice shot-stopper.

There have already been suggestions of a rift between Lloris and Villas-Boas, but the Spurs boss has insisted he has been impressed with the new arrival after watching him perform in training.

He said: "The first two days after the international week (and before the Reading game) were more like recovery days for him.

"From then on he was training more with (goalkeeping coach) Tony Parks to get used to his methods, which is very, very important. And obviously he mixed in with what we were doing on the pitch.

"The only thing we can say is that his talent is immense and easily visible from the time he has trained with us."

Claiming the pair have cleared the air, Villas-Boas said: "We have spoken last weekend and during the week. Everything is fine."
