The sporting director of Pachuca, the Mexican club of midfielder Hector Herrera, has claimed that both Manchester United and Liverpool have discussed the potential signing of the player.

Herrera featured for Mexico during their London 2012 Olympic campaign, which ended with a gold medal, and was reported to have been the subject of a £10 million bid from Liverpool.

However, Pachuca sporting director Andres Fassi has now claimed that United are also in the mix for the 22-year-old, and expects the player to complete a move to the Premier League shortly.

"There is official interest. We have a document," Fassi was quoted as saying by the Sun. "We know he's going to emigrate to England. Manchester United and Liverpool have talked to us.

"We want him to continue with Pachuca, but when he decides to leave the club will give him the opportunity to do so."

Herrera is currently recovering from an ankle injury picked up during the Olympics.
