Michael Owen has distanced himself from speculation linking him with a move to Everton, describing the talk as "just rumours".

Owen, 32, is currently looking for a new club after being released by Manchester United at the end of last season after three years at Old Trafford.

Reports on Monday morning had suggested that Everton were in talks with Owen over a move to Goodison Park but, when asked by a Twitter user if he was signing for Everton, Owen responded by tweeting: "Just rumours."

And asked when he was going to make an announcement as to which club he would be joining, Owen tweeted: "When I know myself!"

Owen has also been linked with a move to Stoke, but manager Tony Pulis has made it clear that no deal would be possible unless they were to offload some of the strikers currently on their books.

Pulis said: "We've got five strikers at the football club, so to bring another one in at the moment is not feasible. If we were to lose one or two strikers and Michael was still available we'd be in the market. You'll have to wait and see if any strikers go."
