Spurs quiet as Villas-Boas reports grow
Former Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas has turned down an offer to manage Sao Paulo, according to the Brazilian club, amid reports in the English press that he is poised to be appointed the new Tottenham boss.
Sao Paulo are on the hunt for a new head coach after parting company with Emerson Leao on Tuesday. The club's director of football, Adalberto Baptista, has claimed an approach was made for Villas-Boas' services.
Baptista told Globo Esporte: "He today said that he doesn't want to manage Sao Paulo. He prefers to have more time to plan things, but I have no time to wait."
Tottenham are also seeking to fill their vacant managerial position after Harry Redknapp's exit this month, and speculation has suggested that Villas-Boas is poised for the role, despite the 34-year-old branding the reports "lies" at the weekend.
The Daily Telegraph claims Spurs held "advanced talks" with the Portuguese on Tuesday night, although the club refused to comment on the speculation when approached by ESPN on Wednesday.
