Didier Drogba's representatives have dismissed speculation the striker could sign for Barcelona.

Drogba, 34, left Chelsea this summer and agreed a move to Chinese side Shanghai Shenhua on a free transfer, a switch that was confirmed by the player last week.

Reports then emerged that he had a clause in his contract allowing him to move on a free transfer and could instead make a shock move to Barcelona.

However, the Sports PR Company tweeted: "Drogba to Barca story complete nonsense. As we told you he joins Shanghai in July."

Barcelona President Sandro Rosell, when asked by Spanish media about the link, said: "If Drogba is here, it's for a holiday. I know nothing of this."

The striker is reportedly set to spend several days this week in Catalonia but it has been suggested that any talks with Barcelona would be related to the promotion of his Didier Drogba Foundation charity.
