Rain was the winner on Friday as none of the quarter-finals of the AEGON Classic were able to be completed at the Edgbaston Priory Club in Birmingham.

China's Zheng Jie was up 6-3 5-6 against Roberta Vinci when rain brought a halt to their match. Zheng had the momentum after taking the first set but Vinci rallied in the second before the heavens opened.

Misaki Doi was able to wrap up a 6-4 7-5 third-round victory over Stephanie Foretz Gacon before the bad weather arrived, and she goes on to meet Jelena Jankovic in the last eight.

Meanwhile, at the Nurnberger Gastein Ladies in Austria, second seed Yanina Wickmayer overcame home favourite Yvonne Meusberger 6-3 6-2 to reach the semi-finals. The shock of the day saw eighth seed Johanna Larsson crash to Mandy Minella in three sets.
