Montpellier striker Olivier Giroud is close to moving to Arsenal, the French club's manager has said.

Giroud, 25, scored 21 league goals last season as his side won the Ligue 1 title, and Rene Girard says the Gunners lead the chase to sign the France international in a deal that could cost the north London side between €10 million and €13m.

"Arsenal are very interested, and Giroud wants to play in England," Girard told French radio station RMC. "If Arsene [Wenger] agrees with the president, he will sign for them."

Giroud, currently with the France national team at Euro 2012, is under contract at the French champions until June 2014.

He had previously been linked with a summer switch to Bayern Munich and appeared to favour a move there, but has most recently been tracked by Europa League winners Atletico Madrid, Spanish side Malaga and Serie A outfit Roma.

Giroud will consider his options after Euro 2012, and should he sign for Wenger's side would be the Frenchman's second summer acquisition after German forward Lukas Podolski.
