Jose Mourinho has moved to distance himself from the Chelsea job by signing a new contract at Real Madrid.

Mourinho, who guided Madrid to the Spanish title and Champions League semi-finals this season, had hinted he was ready for a new challenge, but he has put pen to paper on a deal to keep him at the Bernabeu until 2016.

Mourinho, who arrived at the club in 2010, had been contracted until 2014 but had been linked with a return to Stamford Bridge, with Roberto Di Matteo's future still uncertain following the Blues' Champions League win on Saturday.

A statement on the club's official website read: "Real Madrid CF and Jose Mourinho have reached an agreement to extend the latter's contract with the club until 30 June 2016."
