Fraizer Campbell has earned his first England call-up after being named in Stuart Pearce's squad to face Netherlands next week.

The Sunderland striker has endured a host of injuries since his move from Manchester United in 2009, but has been named as one of five strikers in a youthful 25-man squad for the friendly at Wembley on February 29.

He made just three Premier League starts for the Black Cats last season following a serious knee injury, but has impressed since making his return in January.

United midfielder Tom Cleverley is the only other uncapped player, while there were recalls for Manchester City defender Micah Richards and Robert Green.

Liverpool's Steven Gerrard, back in the England squad for the first time in over a year, is expected to captain the side, but veterans Rio Ferdinand and Frank Lampard have not been selected.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has been in impressive form for Arsenal, but the former Southampton winger misses out on a place, while Gunners team-mate Theo Walcott is in the squad.

England squad to face Netherlands:
Scott Carson, Joe Hart, Robert Green; Leighton Baines, Gary Cahill, Ashley Cole, Glen Johnson, Phil Jones, Micah Richards, Chris Smalling, Kyle Walker; Gareth Barry, Tom Cleverley, Stewart Downing, Steven Gerrard, Adam Johnson, James Milner, Scott Parker, Theo Walcott, Ashley Young; Darren Bent, Fraizer Campbell, Daniel Sturridge, Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck
