Boca Juniors president Daniel Angelici hopes Carlos Tevez succeeds in terminating his contract with Shanghai Shenhua in order to join the Argentinean club for a third stint.
Tevez joined the Chinese Super League side from Boca in December 2016 and has one year left on his contract.
Argentinean newspaper Clarin reports that Tevez's lawyers and agent Adrian Ruocco met in Spain this week with Shanghai Shenhua representatives and on Thursday reached a preliminary agreement to end the 33-year-old forward's contractual agreement.
"We have to let his [Tevez's] lawyers and agent work so they can reach a good outcome to release him," Angelici, who is a personal friend of Tevez, told TyC Sport. "Once his contract is terminated and he has no contractual ties, we will sit down and probably in less than an hour sign the player."
According to Clarin, Boca will pay $3 million, half of Tevez's release clause, to Shanghai Shenhua to help the player become a free agent.
The ex-Argentina international will then reportedly sign a two-year contract with Boca to become the club's fourth reinforcement and join the team in training as early as Monday.
However, Angelici did not reveal any details and said: "Because I know the clauses that exist [in Tevez's contract], I want to be respectful of the contract and the money that the Chinese club invested on him [Tevez]. It's a delicate issue, there is a lot of confidentiality clauses. Boca could be considered responsible."
Tevez returned to Buenos Aires last month after a difficult season at Shenhua, where injuries and a lack of fitness limited the former Manchester United player to just 16 league appearances.
Angelici is not worried about Tevez's form and believes he will be in better shape than we he returned to Boca three years ago following a decade playing in Europe.
"It's not going to be the same," he said. "If he returns, I have no doubt that he will be better than the first time he came back. "He will be 100 percent. I know him well, I know how professional he is."
Tevez played for Boca from 2001 to 2004 before embarking on a successful career in the Premier League and in Serie A. He returned to his boyhood club in 2015, scoring 25 goals in 56 games.
Tevez was linked with a return to Boca this summer and admitted that he missed the club and the Xeineze fans.
