Alexandre Lacazette fires Lyon to victory over Dinamo Zagreb

Lyon kept alive their hopes of reaching the Champions League knockout stages after easing to a 1-0 win over eliminated Dinamo Zagreb in Croatia.

Alexandre Lacazette's second-half strike earned Lyon the spoils at the Stadion Maksimir and they still have an outside chance of reaching the last 16 after Juventus scored twice late on to beat Sevilla 3-1 in Spain.

Those results mean Lyon will replace Sevilla in second if they can beat the three-time reigning Europa League holders by two goals or more in their final Group H game in France next month.

All signs pointed towards a comfortable Lyon win in Zagreb, with the Ligue 1 outfit having won 7-1 here in the 2011/12 Champions League while they also beat Dinamo 3-0 at home back in September.

However, Lyon had to bide their time before making the breakthrough with Jordan Ferri seeing his 28th-minute shot deflect off Lacazette and smash against the crossbar.

Dinamo goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic also helped keep his side on level terms, saving from Rafael Da Silva, Lacazette, Sergi Darder and Ferri as Lyon pushed for the opener.

Visiting keeper Anthony Lopes was kept warm as well, called upon to deny Amer Gojak and Domagoj Pavicic early on, but it was Lyon who were looking the most threatening.

And they finally got the goal they had been searching for in the 72nd minute when Rafael made good ground into the box on the right before rolling the ball across the face of goal for the unmarked Lacazette to slot home from close range.

That tap-in from Lyon's star striker was enough to give Bruno Genesio's men the points in the Croatian capital and, with Juventus upsetting previously-unbeaten Sevilla in the night's other match, they can now snatch a top-two finish when they host the Spanish side on December 7.

Sevilla, who are currently three points ahead of Lyon, beat Les Gones 1-0 at home in September.
