The New England Revolution have acquired Syria international defender Gabriel Somi on a free transfer from Swedish club Ostersunds FK, the club announced on Friday.
The deal for Somi, 26, will be completed upon receipt of his International Transfer Certificate (ITC).
"We are very pleased to add a versatile player in Gabriel who has the ability to help contribute at both ends of the field," New England general manager Michael Burns said of the acquisition.
"We look forward to seeing the impact he will have on the field in 2018 and beyond."
A native of Sweden, Somi has spent his entire career in the country, making 132 appearances for Orebro Syrianska IF, Syrianska FC and Ostersund since turning pro in 2012.
Somi played in 18 matches over all competitions for Ostersund in the 2016-17 season and participated in eight Europa League fixtures in the 2017-18 campaign.
Somi was an unused substitute in Syria's AFC World Cup qualifying playoff against Australia, which they lost 3-2 on aggregate.
