Marcus Rashford will remain in the England under-20s squad this week and is in consideration to make his debut against Canada on Sunday, a source said.
Nicky Butt, the Manchester United academy coach, warned last week that picking Rashford for the senior squad for Euro 2016 could "backfire on everyone."
The United striker subsequently scored the winning goal in Sunday's 1-0 derby win at Manchester City, but he is still set to travel to the Keepmoat Stadium for the England U20 match.
England manager Roy Hodgson had said, at the start of this month, that Rashford was neither ruled in or ruled out of the Euro 2016 squad for the summer.
Hodgson's men are preparing for friendlies against Germany and Netherlands with their strike options being Harry Kane, Daniel Sturridge, Jamie Vardy, Theo Walcott and Danny Welbeck.
Rashford is one of two United forwards named in Keith Downing's England Under-20s squad, with the other being Ashley Fletcher, who is on loan at Barnsley.
