Things change in the blink of an eye in football. The Football Whispers Index takes the latest transfer rumours and gives them a score out of five; the higher the score, the more realistic and reliable the whisper.
Here are today's top five emerging whispers. And keep an eye on Transfer Talk for all the latest gossip.
Jack Wilshere to West Ham
The midfielder seems more likely to walk into the England starting XI than he does into Arsene Wenger's side at the moment, and the latest rumours suggest that the 25-year-old will leave the club in January. Having not played a minute of Premier League football this season and with a World Cup on the horizon, a move to West Ham to secure first-team football, as reported by the Times, seems like the ideal scenario. Wilshere's contract expires in June and Arsenal would prefer to receive some fee for the player in January rather than send him out on loan and lose him for free in the summer.
Mimoun Mahi to Leeds United
Leeds manager Thomas Christiansen is still on the lookout for replacements for Chris Wood, who departed for Burnley in the summer. And he has identified FC Groningen's Mahi as a player who could slot into the role, according to the Express. The Moroccan has been in good form for the Dutch club having scored four goals in seven games so far this season. The 23-year-old plays across the forward line, and isn't just a centre-forward, which makes his goal return all the more impressive.
Yuto Nagatomo to West Bromwich Albion
Tony Pulis is a long time admirer of Inter Milan's Japanese full-back, according to Tutto Mercato. And, as the player stalls over signing a new contract, the Midlands club could make a move. Nagatomo's current deal runs until 2019, but is reportedly looking for another club as he approaches the latter years of his career. Kieran Gibbs currently occupies the left-back position for West Brom, but the 31-year-old, who has made over 200 appearances for Inter, is versatile and can play at right-back as well as in midfield.
Andros Townsend to Leicester City
Craig Shakespeare's side are set to revisit the possibility of signing the Crystal Palace and England winger after initially showing interest in him during the summer transfer window. Palace manager Roy Hodgson has been told he can strengthen his squad in January, but only if some of the money is recouped in sales. Townsend's departure would provide funds and, say the Daily Mirror, his sale to Leicester would mean the former England manager can sign a centre-forward who better fits his preferred 4-4-2 system.
N'Golo Kante to PSG
The French club are reportedly looking to add some steel to their lavish group of attacking talent and have identified Chelsea midfielder Kante as the man to provide it. The Daily Mirror report that the Paris-born 26-year-old could cost the Ligue 1 side as much as £90 million, but the Qatar-backed club are not deterred by such figures. PSG hope Kante's ability to break up opposition attacks would give them the edge as they search desperately for success in the Champions League.
