Sauber F1 driver Pascal Wehrlein is still undergoing medical checks following his accident at the Race of Champions last month.

Wehrlein was racing fellow Formula One driver Felipe Massa in a Polaris Slingshot when, after crossing the finish line, he damaged his steering against the barrier separating the two cars and collided with Massa. The collision pitched his car into a roll over the top of a temporary barrier before coming to a rest against the perimeter barrier.

Both Wehrlein and his passenger walked away from the accident, although the F1 driver decided to withdraw from the rest of the competition. Since then, he has been receiving ongoing medical examinations on his neck to determine the extent of any injury.

But Sauber said media reports suggesting he might not be fit in time for the start of the season remain "pure speculation" until all the medical checks have been carried out.

The first day of pre-season testing gets underway on February 27.
