Nico Rosberg won the last three GPs of 2015. Has anyone else ever managed a hat trick but never won the world title? asked Eric Grant

Nico Rosberg won the last three races of 2015 -- in Mexico, Brazil and Abu Dhabi in November -- to complete his first hat trick of grand prix victories.

The only man to finish his career without a championship who also won three races in a row was Stirling Moss, back in the 1950s. He won the last two races of 1957, at Pescara and Monza in Italy, then the first of 1958, in Argentina -- but both years ended up second in the world championship, his fate in 1955 and 1956 as well.

Six drivers who were world champions at some point have also managed a hat trick of wins in a season in which they didn't win the title: Alan Jones in 1979, Ayrton Senna in 1989, Alain Prost in 1990, Nigel Mansell in 1991, Damon Hill in 1993 and 1994, and Michael Schumacher in 1998 and 2006.
