Ricky Burns has become the second boxer this week to split from Frank Warren after his fight was put back until next month.
On Monday, George Groves made the switch to rival promoters Matchroom to join forces with Eddie Hearn and end his time with Warren, and now Burns has followed suit and left Warren's promotions, according to his manager Alex Morrison. There is no confirmation yet as to who the 29-year-old will be signing up with.
WBO lightweight champion Burns was due to take on IBF title holder Miguel Vazquez on March 16 in a unification fight. However, the fight was delayed and had been shifted to April 20, with Vazquez being struck down by a viral infection caused by food poisoning.
But, the Scotsman reports that Vazquez appears to be seen on YouTube taking part in a sparring session, leading Burns' manager Morrison to question just how ill the Mexican really is.
"I regret it has come to this because I have known Frank for nearly 40 years, but it has to be for Ricky's sake. I felt we had to do something to stop Ricky stagnating," Morrison was quoted as saying by the Scotsman on the split.
"Two fights have been called off after he has trained hard for them and it was not even certain that the bout with Vazquez would have gone ahead on April 20. In fact, I now doubt very much that fight was ever going to happen," Morrison added.
