Cavendish writes off bike in training crash

Ahead of his Team Sky debut this weekend, Mark Cavendish escaped unscathed after writing off his bike in a training accident in Essex.
The world champion, who kicks off his season at the Tour of Qatar on Sunday, escaped with minor injuries, but his bike came off much worse after the incident on Wednesday.
"The front wheel went from under me and I went over with a bang, ripping my buckle clean out of my shoes," Cavendish told The Sun. "I'm not scratched but a little bruised. The bike is written off."
Cavendish, who will attempt to defend his green jersey at this year's Tour de France before bidding for road race gold at London 2012, admits Olympic glory is the one honour that still eludes him on the road.
"I've won National, European, World and Commonwealth Championships medals - but this is the one thing that's missing," Cavendish added. "But I'm not focusing on the Olympics purely because of that. I'm going because it's in London, my own country, and we're one of the favourites to win it.
"I still get a lot of national pride whenever I pull on my GB jersey. To do the nation proud, especially with it being the Games' first gold on offer, is a big motivator for me."
