Jon Callard is the Rugby Football Union's new national performance academy manager and international performance coach.
Callard was previously head coach of the Saxons but has moved into a newly-created role that will see him primarily work with the Under-20 side. He will also help those making the leap from U20 rugby into the Saxons squad.
"This is a newly created post which will give both aspiring and current international players the best possible support," RFU head of international player development Joe Lydon said. "Jon was the outstanding candidate throughout the appointment process amongst a strong field of applicants. He already works extremely effectively with our age grade teams, has a vast knowledge and experience and a proven record of player development.
"His coaching, management and leadership skills will be a great asset in leading the new national performance academy which, in partnership with the professional clubs, is to play a crucial part in the confirmation and development of the next generation of senior England players."
Callard won five caps for England and the Heineken Cup at Bath. He is relishing the chance to take on the role which he will assume on September 1. "I'm delighted to take on this role in what is an exciting time for English rugby," Callard said. "I see it as an extension of my current position and the opportunity to continue developing English talent is a real honour.
"The player pathway has really established itself over the last few years, and while I will be working closely with the Under 20s and the players just out of the programme, it's imperative to keep tabs on the talent coming through below that too."
