Jonny Wilkinson has spoken of his relief at finishing his Toulon career in the perfect way saying that had he missed kicks in the final and they lost then he would have struggled to retire from the game.

Wilkinson will now work at Toulon as a dedicated skills coach and in an interview with rugbyrama, he has spoken of his happiness at finishing his career with a Top 14 and Heineken Cup double. But when asked if he would have found it difficult to retire had they lost the finals, Wilkinson said: "I do not know ... This is exactly why I'm very happy.

"The end of season ran perfectly. Everything is finished. If I had a kick in the final and I had missed, I do not know if it would be possible for me to live with it. I think it would have been very complicated. At the end of it, I was able to breathe much better and turn attention to something else."

And Wilkinson admits there are things he will miss but he is looking forward to the next chapter in his rugby career, coaching.

"Of course there are things that I will miss. But it was a good decision to stop. Until then, I continued because I was not sure of my choice. But I finished with the double and it was an opportunity to say thank you and goodbye.

"That's why I woke up with clear ideas and with the energy to do something else. That's what I felt as a coach. It makes me feel good. I love being in rugby, but without the pressure I put on myself."
