Chris Robshaw will captain England through the 2014 Six Nations.

Robshaw has been Stuart Lancaster's captain of choice since he took over the side on an interim basis ahead of the 2012 Six Nations. Since then, bar the tour to Argentina where Robshaw was rested, the Harlequins flanker has seen off the threat of Tom Wood for the captaincy and various other contenders for his preferred openside berth.

Barring some rapid slump in form or injury, Robshaw will be the man to guide the team through the 2015 World Cup.

"Chris is in the team on merit as a player first and foremost but he has also shown himself to be an outstanding leader for Harlequins and England," Lancaster said. "He led us well during the autumn internationals and I have no doubt that, as he goes into his third Six Nations as captain, he will do likewise."

Robshaw added: "Stuart rang me yesterday (Thursday) and, as with every time he has asked me, it is a great privilege. To lead your country is a massive honour but I am fortunate to have a group of players and leaders who support me in that. We want to kick on from the autumn internationals and we can't wait for the challenge ahead, starting with a tough away match against France."
