This may be the age of professionalism and the seriousness that brings, but Leicester's 22-year-old prop Tom Bristow paid a very old-world price for lying to the club's social committee as to his whereabouts on a team night out - he lost an eyebrow.

It all started when Bristow excused himself from a mid-season boys night out, claiming he was going to the theatre with his parents, and that immediately aroused suspicions. Team-mate Jordan Crane, writing in his Living Rugby blog, said: "Without going into Tom's character too much, let's just say you would not put him down as the most artistic of props."

Other players started delving deeper and Bristow's explanations became less convincing and when he said he was going to see a cousin's school play on a Saturday night they knew he was not being straight with them. "It was so far fetched that we got him to swear on his eyebrows that he was telling the truth." Crane said. "He did."

Bristow continued digging hole for himself by telling them which school. One phone call revealed there was no play. It turned out he had been on a date.

"Ryan Lamb and Manu Tuilagi led the kangaroo court that led to Tom losing one of his eyebrows," Crane said. "We had pity on the other one. But he still looked hilarious."
