Andrew Sheridan could be forced to retire

December 3, 2013

Former England prop Andrew Sheridan could be forced to retire because of a neck injury he sustained during Toulon's Top 14 match against Perpignan last month.

Speaking to the French media, Toulon coach Bernard Laporte said Sheridan would be reassessed after resting for a month.

"Andrew is out for a month and possibly forever," Laporte told the press. "He has always had a problem between his neck and his shoulder. The surgeon has told him that it's not necessary to have a new operation.

"He will now have a month of complete rest and if the pain doesn't go away, then he will have to stop playing rugby."

Sheridan, 34, who made 40 England appearances between 2004 and 2011, underwent four shoulder operations inside two years during his time with Sale and turned down an insurance payout in 2011 to continue playing.
