Profile

Leicester prop Julian White has become the cornerstone of one of the most dominat packs in English rugby. While he lacks the mobility of other modern front-row forwards, his powers at scrum-time have led to him becoming one of the most feared opponents on the Premiership stage.

White has enjoyed a varied professional career, beginning with a spell playing for Hawke's Bay and the Crusaders in New Zealand before joining Bridgend in 1998. During his time in New Zealand he also made a single appearance for the Crusaders in the Super 12.

White then joined Saracens, whom he represented until 2002. He made his England debut against South Africa in the summer of 2000, becoming a regular in the squad, often as cover for Phil Vickery.

After his time with Sarries, White joined Bristol but following an unsuccessful period in the West Country, including a lengthy ban for a headbutt, White made the switch Leicester Tigers in 2003. White's Leicester debut was delayed as he was a squad member for England's run to the Rugby World Cup in 2003, appearing against Samoa and Uruguay.

White became huge success at Leicester, with his bruising physicality winning him admirers among the Welford Road faithful. In 2005 he was selected for the British and Irish Lions tour of New Zealand, playing in the warm-up Test against Argentina at the Millennium Stadium before starting all three Tests against New Zealand as the Lions were whitewashed.

In January 2009 White was called into the England squad after Bath prop Matt Stevens was suspended following an admission of a drugs problem. White's call-up came almost two years after his last appearance in a white shirt.
