Raymond van Barneveld won seven out of nine legs to come from 4-1 down and topple Michael van Gerwen to reach the semi-finals of the Coral Masters in Edinburgh.

Barney got the better of Van Gerwen to win the Grand Slam almost a year ago, but the latter had the upper hand after racing into a 4-1 advantage. Five-time champion of the world Van Barneveld though dug deep to see off his young Dutch compatriot by winning 8-6.

Phil Taylor put on a masterful display to beat Wes Newton 8-2, while current European champion Adrian Lewis defeated home favourite Robert Thornton by the same scoreline.

James Wade battled the boos of the crowd to overcome Simon Whitlock in a thrilling encounter. Wade trailed 7-4 but came back to level at 7-7, and with plenty of jeers from the crowd Wade held his nerve to knock out the Australian by landing a 91 checkout on the bull.
