Taylor survives scare at Masters

Phil Taylor survived a scare to come from behind and beat Terry Jenkins 6-3 in the opening round of the Coral Masters in Edinburgh.

Jenkins fought back from 2-0 down to lead 3-2, before Taylor reeled off four successive legs to win.

Earlier on there were narrow 6-5 wins for Adrian Lewis and James Wade.

Kim Huybrechts forced a decider against Lewis by pinning double 16, keeping up a 108 average. The Belgian then hit two 140s with Lewis missing the bull for a 170 checkout. However Huybrechts fluffed two darts at tops to finish 97, with Lewis winning on double eight.

Wade came back from 4-2 down to beat Kevin Painter. Wade opened the deciding leg with a 180, before taking victory on double two having missed four match darts.

Wes Newton saw off Justin Pipe by the same scoreline. Newton scored 140, 180 and 126 to be first to a finish, against the throw, hitting tops for victory after missing two match darts with Pipe unable to finish 160.

Having been locked at 4-4 with Mervyn King, Simon Whitlock hit double 18 to move ahead before taking out 112 to seal a quarter-final place.

Earlier on, Robert Thornton beat Andy Hamilton 6-4.
