Nairo Quintana is closing in on victory in the Giro d'Italia after winning Friday's mountain time trial stage 19 from Bassano de Grappa to Cima Grappa.

He stretched his lead over fellow Colombian Rigoberto Uran to more than three minutes with just two stages of the race left.

Quintana, of Movistar, completed the 26.8km route in one hour, five minutes and 37 seconds, with Italian Fabio Aru finishing 17 seconds back to move into third place in the overall standings.

Following his victory in stage 16, it was Quintana's second stage win of the Giro as he denied the local fans a home victory for Aru.

"I had a great feeling and I took full advantage of it, I was really well prepared," said Quintana.

"Tomorrow, I have a strong team to control the stage. I'll try to attack when we get towards the top. Why not?"
