Thomas left out of GB road squad
Geraint Thomas has missed out on a place in the British team for the UCI Road World Championships in Netherlands.
The Welshman, who had been on British Cycling's long-list for both the road race and time trial, has missed out on a place in the nine-man squad for the senior events.
Thomas will be in Limburg for the Championships, racing for Team Sky in the team time trial on Sunday - trade teams are taking part in the World Championships for the first time with the re-introduction of the event following an 18-year absence - but will not race for Great Britain.
With Olympic time trial champion Bradley Wiggins opting out of the event after his exertions this summer, Chris Froome and British time trial champion Alex Dowsett - both Team Sky riders with Thomas - will take on the 45.7km course on Wednesday.
Froome was runner-up to Wiggins in the Tour de France and was in contention for the Vuelta a Espana before losing the leaders in the closing stages of the race. He also raced in the Olympic time trial, winning bronze.
Both Froome and Dowsett will also race in the elite men's road race as Mark Cavendish looks to defend his 2011 world title. Wiggins will ride in support of Cavendish in the nine-man squad.
Double Olympic champion Thomas has split his time between the road and the Velodrome effectively this season, defending the team pursuit gold won in Beijing at the London Olympics this summer while posting second-place finishes on two individual time trial stages of the Giro d'Italia and a win in the prologue of the Tour de Romandie.
