Hearing that Appalachian State not surprisingly wants a coach with direct ties to the school to succeed Scott Satterfield. Georgia Tech defensive coordinator Nate Woody, NC State associate head coach/OL coach Dwayne Ledford and Georgia Southern defensive coordinator Scot Sloan all will be in the mix. Georgia State coach Sean Elliott could be an option, too, as he played and coached at Appalachian State. A 2-10 record this fall doesn't help.
Louisville has hired Appalachian State's Scott Satterfield as the Cardinals' new football coach, replacing the fired Bobby Petrino. Satterfield's high-scoring Mountaineers have won three straight Sun Belt titles.
Clemson is back at No. 2 behind top-ranked Alabama while Ohio State tumbled out of the top 10, and Appalachian State is ranked in the AP poll for the first time in school history.
