Every top 25 team's best reason for optimism next season

Even with the College Football Playoff selection committee's top 25 still battling for semifinal and New Year's Six bowl positions, it's never too early to look ahead to next season.

Boston College coach Steve Addazio said starting QB Anthony Brown is day to day with an abdominal injury sustained on the Eagles' first possession against Clemson. RB AJ Dillon's status (ankle) is similar to last week. Addazio is hopeful to get Dillon into practice more by the end of the week.

Boston College coach Steve Addazio said quarterback Anthony Brown is hospitalized with an "internal" injury (Addazio declined to elaborate). Running back AJ Dillon tweaked his ankle injury during the game. "He's nowhere near 100 percent," Addazio said. "He's just not."

A strange first half in Chestnut Hill ends with Clemson leading 13-7. The Tigers have out-gained Boston College 260-24 and run 18 more plays than the Eagles. But an aggressive and stingy BC defense has limited damage. The Eagles now must find something that works on offense with QB Anthony Brown out and RB AJ Dillon ineffective (8 carries, 27 yards). Clemson starting left tackle Mitch Hyatt left the game late in the first half with an unknown injury.

Boston College needs to find something soon on offense, but its defense has been very solid so far in limiting damage. Clemson has 212 yards behind efficient QB Trevor Lawrence, but it has struggled in the red zone and in short-yardage situations (50 rush yards on 14 carries). Linebackers Connor Strachan and Max Richardson have been especially active.
