Kell Brook may return at O2 show in May - Eddie Hearn

Kell Brook may make a quick ring return after promoter Eddie Hearn said he is considering putting the IBF world welterweight champion on the bill of his May 30 show at the O2 Arena in London.

The Sheffield boxer comfortably dealt with Romanian Jo Jo Dan last Saturday and the plan was for him to fight again in June or July back in his home city, with Mexican Juan Manuel Marquez and American Brandon Rios the leading candidates for opponents.

Brook, 28, had not fought since winning the IBF belt from Shawn Porter in August after being kept out of the ring with a leg injury sustained in a stabbing while on holiday in Tenerife.

"Originally we were planning Kell's next fight for July but he is itching to fight again and we could bring him back as early as May," said Hearn. "It's been a frustrating period for him but there is no stopping Kell now and we want to get him back in action as soon as possible."

But Hearn is still not expecting Brook's British welterweight rival Amir Khan to agree to a June 13 date for their pair to meet at Wembley.

Former world light-welterweight champion Khan, also 28, is expected to announce his next opponent within a week after talks with his adviser Al Haymon.

Brook and Khan have both agreed this week to a winner takes all contest, but the grudge match is still no closer to being made.

With an outdoor stadium looking the most likely suitable venue to stage Khan-Brook and Khan not due to fight again until later this year after an outing next month, summer 2016 seems a more realistic time to expect Khan-Brook.

Khan has instead been linked to fighting Americans Adrien Broner or Chris Algieri in the States on May 30 while Rios told BBC Radio Sheffield he is ready to face Brook in England this summer.

"I came out injury-free and the leg felt great, so I want to box as soon as possible," Brook said. "I said before the fight that I have kept the fans waiting too long - I don't want that to happen again.

"The buzz from the fans when I was walking out was amazing, and the roar each time I knocked him down made me feel like a giant.

"I have told Eddie Hearn to get me out as soon as possible and I want to fight twice before the end of the summer, starting at the end of May."
