George Groves says he wants to challenge for world titles "sooner rather than later" as he prepares for to take on Christopher Rebrasse in a WBC final eliminator at Wembley Arena next month.

Speaking to ESPN's Steve Bunce, Groves revealed it is "all about taking the quickest route rather than the easiest route" after being knocked out in his last fight against Carl Froch in front of a British record crowd in May.

He added: "The Sauerland brothers (Groves' promoters) have done well and they've identified WBC as a logical route.

"They've managed to secure me a European title fight but also more importantly a world title eliminator which is essentially a final eliminator for WBC, so this next fight is going to challenge Beaker or Durell and I'm back in the picture, fighting for a world title.

"Nothing's easy and nothing's a given in boxing but that's how we hope it goes. If we win this fight [against Rebrasse], possibly fight for a world title, win that and then world champion and we decide from there.

"There are plenty of massive fights out there for me, I know that, but the goals always going to become world champion.

"Once I'm world Champion we can think about what fights are fun rather than fights that need to take place."

Groves also revealed that he plans to stay in the super middleweight division.

"I make the weight relatively easily," he said. "I'm not ready to move up yet, I need to establish myself at super middleweight before I think about anything else, and just where the rankings are this is where I've competed at for my career.

"I don't want to chop and change at this stage. No excuses for losing the last fight. I'm not weight training all the time or move up a weight or something. What I'm going to do is correct the mistakes and get the job done."
