Promising himself to be a new fighter in the pre-fight build-up, DeGale was quick out the blocks and immediately drew roars of appreciation from the crowd with a hard left hand, which made Gonzales stumble onto the back foot.

Gonzales was on the receiving end again as another big left landed from DeGale in the closing exchanges of the opening round, which also saw Gonzales spoken to for an apparent low blow.

Gonzales settled in the second and immediately looked to get close to DeGale, who prefers to dictate his fights from a distance. The American found some success on the inside with a pair of body shots, but DeGale closed out with yet another powerful left hook.

Gonzales continued to box close in round three but was warned again by referee Steve Gray for another low shot towards shortly before the bell.

It did nothing but spur the Brit on, though, as DeGale pounced in the fourth. A massive left-right combination from DeGale stunned his opponent, who was then grounded with a thunderous left hook.

Gray counted to eight before letting the fight continue. However, DeGale countered with another left and, with Gonzales facing severe problems, Gray finally stepped in to end it.
