Promoter Eddie Hearn has confirmed the capture of WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns by his Matchroom Boxing company.

Burns recently split from Frank Warren following the postponement of his unification bout against IBF title-holder Miguel Vazquez.

It was the third straight bout that had been scrapped for the Coatbridge fighter, who had also been scheduled to meet Liam Walsh and then Jose Ocampo in December.

As a result, Burns has not fought since a demolition of Kevin Mitchell in September, but will hope to become more active under new promoter Hearn, who unveiled his latest capture at Grovesnor House on Monday.

Intriguingly, Hearn announced that Burns' next outing would be May 11 against an unnamed opponent. Warren, meanwhile, maintains Burns is obligated to fulfill his revised fight date with Vazquez on April 20.

Hearns said on Monday: "I'm delighted to welcome Ricky Burns to the team. Ricky is an outstanding fighter and a hugely popular sporting figure in Scotland.

"We are looking forward to a massive show on May 11 in Scotland as we begin our journey with Ricky."

Burns commented: "I'm delighted that my future has been resolved and I'm really looking forward to the next chapter of my career. It's been a frustrating time since the Kevin Mitchell win but now I'm just focused on May 11 and putting in a great performance.

"I would love it to be in Glasgow - my last two fights were there and the atmosphere was just electric. I've got great fans in Scotland and it means a lot to box in front of them."

Burns follows George Groves to Matchroom, after the super-middleweight recently switched promoters. Groves beat Dario German Balmaceda on Saturday.
