Leeds finally won the Rugby League Challenge Cup after losing six finals. Has any other team lost more? asked Martin Bright
This year's victory over Castleford was Leeds's 13th victory overall in the Challenge Cup, but their first since 1999, when they hammered London Broncos 52-16. Since then they had indeed lost in the final six times, including a melancholy hat-trick from 2010 to 2012.
Overall Leeds have lost in the final on 12 occasions, a record shared by Hull - but they have only won the trophy three times.
Wigan come next in the runners-up list with 11 - but they are the only team to have won the Cup more often than Leeds: 19 times now, including their famous record run of eight in a row between 1988 and 1995. St Helens have lost in nine finals (and won 12), Warrington in eight (won eight), and Halifax in seven (won five).
Four teams have lost their only final: York (1931), Keighley (1937), London Broncos (1999) and Catalans Dragons (2007).
