Just when they thought their hunt for a new manager could not get any more farcical, Crystal Palace have received an application from one of TV's most hapless teenagers.
Childhood Palace fan James Buckley, a.k.a Jay Cartwright of The Inbetweeners, has submitted a CV on behalf of his foul-mouthed alter-ego for the vacancy at Selhurst Park left by the departure of Tony Pulis.
Citing prowess in drinking, womanising and money-making, Cartwright boasts skills more in line with your average bad-boy footballer rather than an upstanding manager, but his supposed footballing achievements are certain to have turned heads in the Palace boardroom.
Cartwright, one of the four luckless youths that make up E4's Inbetweeners, claims to have lifted the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, League Cup and Charity Shield while at the helm of Manchester United, feats which apparently saw him named manager of the year on three occasions.
However, with Palace admitting they are no closer to finding a new manager, Cartwright could yet find himself with a new job. And with a CV like that, what could go wrong?
