Have any of the World Golf Championship tournaments ever been played in Britain? asked Brian Wooldridge
Only one World Golf Championship has ever been staged in Britain. It was the WGC Championship - now sponsored by Cadillac but by American Express at the time - back in 2006.
Played at The Grove near Watford in Hertfordshire, it was won by Tiger Woods. The tournament has also been played twice in Ireland - at Mount Juliet in 2002 and 2004 - and twice in Spain, as the first two - in 1999 and 2000 - were at Valderrama.
The WGC Match Play has been held in America every year except 2001, when it was in Melbourne, Australia.
The WGC Invitational, sponsored by Bridgestone, has been played at Firestone, Ohio, every year since its inception in 1999, apart from 2002 when it was held at Sahalee in Washington.
The fifth and final event, the Champions, backed by HSBC was added to the WGC roster in 2009, and has always been played in China.
