Welsh legend Phil Bennett has warned that a failure to resolve the row over the future of European rugby could risk the future of the professional game in Wales.
"Without the European Cup the regions could fold," Bennett told the Daily Express. "It's now time that the Welsh Rugby Union got together with the regions and said this must not happen. The WRU must have money coming in.
"The Heineken Cup is such a great competition and it would be devastating to see it go. International players in Wales want to be playing in the best competition available. As far as I am concerned, that has got to involve the English, French, Irish, Scots and Italian teams. That is the only way you can do it."
