Injured Pavey pulls out of World Championships

Jo Pavey has been forced to withdraw from the World Championships in Daegu next month after picking up an injury.
Marathon runner Pavey has enjoyed a good season to date, notably beating Paula Radcliffe at the Bupa London 10,000. Clocking a time of 32.23, Pavey was the first Briton to beat Radcliffe in three years.
However, the 37-year-old will not travel to Korea in August after sustaining a foot injury. The damage is not believed to be serious, but Pavey is not willing to risk the problem with the London 2012 Olympics just a year away.
Instead she will attempt to keep sharp by running a marathon later this year. Pavey's debut in the London Marathon in April saw her produce a hugely encouraging 19th-placed finish.
The British team will also be shorn of Louise Damen, who requires treatment on a hernia. Radcliffe is another name who will not feature in Daegu.
As a result, Mara Yamauchi, Alyson Dixon and Susan Partridge will provide British representation at the World Championships, which start on August 27.
