Farah beaten in Diamond League 5,000m

Double Olympic champion Mo Farah suffered defeat in his opening Diamond League race of the season, finishing second behind Kenyan Edwin Soi in the 5,000 metres in Oregon.

Soi, who out-sprinted 30-year-old Farah down the finishing straight, completed the race in a time of 13 minutes 4.75 seconds.

Farah switched to the shorter distance from the 10,000m following his struggle with a stomach bug.

Elsewhere, Christine Ohuruogu could only finish fourth in the 400m with a time of 51.31secs, as Amantle Montsho secured a comfortable victory in 50.0secs

Greg Rutherford had to settle for third in the long jump with his Friday effort of 8.22 metres. Aleksandr Menkov of Russia took first place with a jump of 8.39m.

Perry Shakes-Drayton came sixth in the 400m hurdles, finishing two seconds behind Zuzana Hejnova who posted the best time of the year in 53.7secs.

Hannah England finished eighth in the 1500m, while Laura Weightman came in at 11th in the race which was won by Hellen Obiri in three minutes and 58secs.
