Georgia beat Romania 22-9 to claim the FIRA-AER European Nations Cup Division 1A title and secured their place in New Zealand's pool in the 2015 Rugby World Cup in the process.
In what was always expected to be a tight, tense battle in front of a capacity crowd of 27,000 at Mikheil Meskhi Stadium in the Georgian capital, a try by tight-head prop David Zirakashvili of Clermont Auvergne coupled with some excellent marksmanship by full-back Merab Kvirikashvili was enough for Georgia.
So October 2, 2015 has suddenly become a big day in Georgia's sporting calendar as they will face the All Blacks in the famous Millennium Stadium, Cardiff. In addition to New Zealand, Georgia will play Tonga on September 19 in Kingsholm, Argentina six days later at the same venue and the Africa 1 qualifier - yet to be determined - on October 7 at Sandy Park, Exeter.
